THE MISSION

über uns.jpg
Ställa_edited.jpg

Ställa , born in 2017, is my partner's Jämthund and quietly and naturally slipped into our group – and stayed. With her calm, balanced nature, she brings stability to the pack and often works in the background, but always with a keen sense of her surroundings. She used to regularly accompany Tomas on hunts until her hips decided that chapter was over. But Ställa takes even that with a serenity that is typical of her. She loves walks, still enjoys playing with the younger dogs, and her cheeky antics always bring a smile to everyone's face. Ställa never pushes herself forward – she's simply there. Calm, clear-headed, and completely at ease. And that's precisely what makes her so special.

Moro.jpeg

Moro , born in Spain in 2015, is a little fighter with a big heart. When he came to us, he was already blind in one eye and, due to years of insecurity, had learned to defend himself by biting. The injured eye eventually had to be removed, and since Moro is also almost completely deaf, he had very little orientation in his environment. For a long time, he was considered a so-called fear biter and spent years in a foster home without ever truly settling down. Only through clear structures, training, and reliable guidance was Moro able to learn that closeness doesn't automatically mean danger. Today, he lives calmly, securely, and with complete trust in us. He's not an easy dog – but one who shows every day how much courage, strength, and will to live can be contained in a small body.

Rya_edited.jpg

Rya , born in 2022, is our energetic Alaskan Husky with a huge zest for life and boundless stamina. Originally from Germany, she finally came to live with us in Sweden after several years of intensive training. It quickly became clear that Rya wasn't suited to a quiet small-town life, but rather needed clear leadership, exercise, and mental stimulation. For a long time, attempts were made to adapt her to a life that never truly suited her. Today, she can finally just be a Husky. Together with Iwar, she forms a strong team and demonstrates every day how balanced and content dogs can become when their needs are taken seriously. With her energy, her directness, and her pure joy for life, Rya brings a breath of fresh air to our group – and reminds us how wonderful true joy can be.

nea.jpeg

Nea is an Alaskan Shepherd and an impressive sled dog with tremendous stamina and a strong work ethic. She spent the first seven years of her life exclusively outdoors – just as is typical for many sled dogs. But since coming to live with us, Nea has made a very different choice: she wants to be an indoor dog. Despite her heritage, she loves the house, the peace and quiet, and being close to her people. She especially loves lying on the sofa, snuggling deep into her own little pillow fort. Outdoors, she still displays her strength, energy, and passion for pulling, but indoors, she is calm, relaxed, and simply enjoys being in the thick of things. Nea reminds me every day that dogs often know exactly what they truly need – if you give them the opportunity to choose for themselves.

4.jpg

Iwar came to us completely unexpectedly. He was born in Mallorca in 2022, where he was kept exclusively on the balcony. At about one year old, he was rescued by animal rights activists and rehomed in Switzerland. His new owner in Switzerland abused and neglected him. He was confiscated by the police and has now found his new home with us. He's a diamond in the rough with many areas of improvement, but we will help him grow into a well-balanced dog.

Hunde-6804.jpg

Jara , born in Romania in 2022, is now a permanent member of our family. This little dog, with the soul of a Chihuahua and a Bull Terrier, is sensitive yet incredibly clear in her communication. Jara is always cold, so she almost always wears sweaters and often trembles like a little shivering mess – but she doesn't let anyone push her around. With her direct manner, strong character, and close bond to her sister Kari, she brings life, excitement, and a whole lot of personality to our home every day.

Kari2.jpeg

Kari , born in Romania in 2022, found her way to us together with her sister Jara. With her white, fluffy fur, she appears soft and reserved – and that's precisely why she's often underestimated. Kari is calm, observant, and only slowly lets people approach her. Outdoors, however, she shows a strong, confident side and often quite naturally takes the lead. She is a gentle soul who demands little but gives an incredible amount of support.

Lori_edited.jpg

Lori came to me completely unexpectedly. I brought four dogs into care—and went home with five.

The little Chihuahua, weighing just 4 kg, was looking for a forever home. Since she fit in so harmoniously with my group, I decided to adopt her. Born in August 2023, she fits perfectly into our pack.

emmi.jpg

Emmi , born in Greece in 2010, has been with me since the beginning of my self-employment and remains an integral part of my journey. While working in animal welfare in Greece, I rescued her from the streets and eventually adopted her. We found each other amidst around 200 dogs – and have been inseparable ever since. Together, we traveled through 16 countries, grew through challenges, and learned what true relationships really mean. Emmi isn't a gentle dog that everyone immediately likes. She's alert, clear-headed, and has a mind of her own. Through her, I learned the meaning of honesty, loyalty, and faithfulness – values I've later been able to share with many others. Today, Emmi is an older lady who still calmly and naturally ensures that everything in the pack has its place.

IMG-20251013-WA0031.jpg

Furi , born in 2019 in Piedmont, found her way across mountains and borders to Zermatt – and ultimately straight into my heart. This large, white Pastor Maremmano Abbruzese was originally intended as a livestock guardian dog, but she's actually a gentle soul with many fears. For over a year, there were reports about the "dog of Zermatt," whom no one could catch. People only ever saw her from afar, and at night, food regularly disappeared from the "Furi" station – that's how she got her name. Then, at the turn of the year 2021, she suddenly appeared in front of my apartment in Zermatt, as if she had decided she had finally arrived. Since then, Furi has been part of our family and shows us every day that strength can sometimes be found in the quietest of places.

Socke.jpg

Socke , born in Romania in 2021, came to me as a tiny rescue at the end of 2023 and has been a wonderful addition to our team ever since. At just six kilos, she was my first small dog – and simultaneously one of the most assertive personalities in the pack. Everything suggests that she once had a home before finding her way to animal rescue. Socke communicates clearly, confidently, and naturally with all other dogs, regardless of their size. She knows no fear, loves physical contact, and with her charming, cheeky nature, she manages to win everyone over instantly. Through her, I learn anew every day that strength has nothing to do with size.

Henja neu_edited.jpg

Henja , born in Romania in 2022, has been enriching our team since the beginning of March 2024. This little hunting terrier mix is full of energy, incredibly quick to learn, and always up for a good time. She was originally intended to be the only dog in the home, but it quickly became clear that she truly thrives in a group setting. Henja loves exercise, play, and shared activities – and her lively personality always manages to get other dogs involved. She is courageous, persistent, and sometimes completely boundless in her temperament. Despite her wild side, Henja is also a sensitive little dog who learns something new every day and enriches our pack with her infectious zest for life.

Dog Rescue Auktsjaur – our shared passion project

With Dog Rescue Auktsjaur, we have created a place where dogs in need can find peace and a new perspective.
What unites us is our deep love for dogs and the desire to give them a safe, temporary home. While Stefanie contributes her decades of experience in dog training, education, and animal welfare, Tomas, with his calm demeanor, hunting and dog experience, and his craftsmanship, ensures that our charges lack nothing.

In February 2024, we decided to jointly build a facility for Dog Rescue Auktsjaur on our property in Sweden. Since then, we have been working side by side – from caring for the dogs and organizing the project to building and maintaining the entire facility.

Stefanie Ammann

Dogs have been a part of my life for many years – and since 2013 also of my professional life.

It all started with a small dog-sitting business, which gave me valuable insights into the nature and behavior of dogs. At the same time, I built my own dog training school – the Ammann Dog Center, which I have now been running with passion for over ten years.

Since 2021, I have been training dog trainers, puppy trainers and animal shelter staff throughout Switzerland and accompanying people on their way into a profession working with animals – in a sound, practical way and with a clear focus on the well-being of the dog.

Animal welfare is my passion. I never missed a holiday without spending time in animal shelters or rescue centers – whether in Greece, Colombia, or elsewhere. Everywhere I went, I was able to lend a hand and make a small contribution to helping dogs in need.

The desire to create a safe place for dogs in need grew over the years – until in the winter of 2023 I made the decision: I bought a large plot of land in Sweden to bring my passion project to life.

Tomas Renberg

Dog lover, hunter – and practical man with heart and mind

Tomas is not only my life partner, but also an indispensable part of our daily life here in the far north. With his calm, straightforward manner, he supports me daily in caring for our dogs and has a keen sense for their needs.

His close connection to dogs has been with him since childhood. For the past six years, he has actively hunted with his Jämthund, Ställa; before that, he hunted with the family dogs. Working with hunting dogs requires trust, timing, and clear communication – qualities that Tomas also brings to his everyday work with our rescued dogs.

Besides his experience with dogs, Tomas is the man for all things manual at Dog Rescue Auktsjaur:
He built the entire property himself – from fencing in the land and constructing the heated doghouse to the sturdy kennels for Nordic breeds that withstand wind, snow, and cold. Whatever needs planning, building, or maintenance, Tomas ensures that both people and dogs feel safe and comfortable here.

Our dogs:

IMG-20250309-WA0015.jpg

Odda , born in 2022, is a true lead dog. Clear-headed, strong, and with a keen sense of her surroundings, she naturally takes on responsibility within the group. Her past has left its mark, as Odda came to us in March 2025 along with Py and Quin after being seized in Sweden following neglect by a musher. Despite this, she demonstrates every day how much stability and inner strength she possesses. She currently lives with a friend who is a musher, where she is kept in a species-appropriate manner and receives daily exercise. She particularly displays her strong character, stamina, and impressive presence when pulling the sled.

IMG-20250310-WA0041.jpg

Py , born in 2022, brings lightness and cheeky charm to the group. Compared to her sister Odda, she's a bit softer, but all the more fun-loving and often up for any kind of mischief. Despite her difficult past, she has retained her zest for life and always manages to create a cheerful atmosphere with her lively personality. Adjusting to her new life wasn't easy for her, but with clear routines, exercise, and daily work, Py is steadily developing. Today, she lives with a friend who is a musher, where she can finally just be a dog and channel her energy constructively.

IMG-20250310-WA0033.jpg

Quin , born in 2023, is the smallest in our husky group – but definitely not the one who takes anything lying down. Even as a puppy, she knew exactly what she wanted and regularly gave her mother a piece of her mind. Despite her smaller size, Quin has an enormous presence and holds her own effortlessly within the group. In March 2025, she came to us along with Odda and Py from a seizure in Sweden, after the dogs had been neglected for a long time. The adjustment to her new life wasn't easy, but Quin shows more confidence and zest for life every day. During daily training sessions in front of the sled, it quickly becomes clear how much energy, ambition, and character this little dog possesses.

Ymer.jpeg

Ymer , born in 2015, came from a seizure case in Sweden and was originally intended to live as a typical outdoor dog. Therefore, we quickly built him a large kennel with a roof. But the roughly 35-kilo escape artist always found a way in and was back on our doorstep a short time later. Eventually, it became clear that Ymer had already chosen his own life. Today, he is a house dog and loves being close to his people. Despite his size, he is incredibly affectionate and always wants to be in the thick of things.

unja.jpg

Unja was born in Romania in 2016 and lives in the shelter with her daughter. Until now, she has had little to no contact with people – trust is being built up with her step by step. In our loving and patient environment, she can find peace, open up, and ultimately experience that people can be good partners. Her development takes time, but we are convinced that with empathy and attentiveness, she will succeed in recognizing that safety and affection are possible.

Vaja.jpg

Vaja is Unja's daughter – born in Romania in 2018 – and is inconceivable without her mother. Her bond with Unja is deep, and she still looks to her for guidance. At the same time, Vaja already shows a wonderful zest for life: she loves playing with the other dogs – something she was never able to do before. In our environment, she is able to have this experience, learn how to be a dog, socialize with other dogs, and gradually learn to be calm and comfortable around people. Her path is shaped by her relationship with Unja, but Vaja is already showing that she has a desire to grow and enjoy life.

Wicky.jpg

Wicky, born in 2024, is a little adventurer full of energy, joie de vivre, and curiosity. Young, playful, and brimming with energy, he throws himself into everyday life, sometimes turning everything upside down, but that's precisely what makes him so endearing. He's currently learning how wonderful it is to be guided, to experience boundaries, and to thrive in our safe environment. Wicky brings a breath of fresh air to the team, reminding us how important species-appropriate activities, loving guidance, and clear structure are – and he demonstrates that even young dogs need a secure framework in which they can grow.

Teddy.jpeg

Teddy born 2024
Teddy survived parvovirus as a puppy in Romania – a start in life that was anything but a given. He initially came to us as a foster dog, but it quickly became clear that he had found his forever home and could stay. Despite his history, Teddy possesses an astonishing lightness of spirit: his behavior is often still puppy-like, playful, and full of curiosity.

In our environment, Teddy is free to live out his zest for life, to explore, learn, and build bonds. With his open nature and his special charm on four paws, he quickly wins hearts – and shows every day how much strength, trust, and zest for life he possesses.

Jax.jpeg

Jax , born in 2014, came to us after his owner passed away. This lovable dachshund quickly won our hearts with his charming and playful nature. To be honest, I never knew I could love dachshunds so much. Despite his small size, Jax has an incredible personality and manages to make everyone smile with his humor and affectionate nature. His cool hairstyle also regularly turns heads. He loves being involved, enjoys the attention of his people, and has become an indispensable part of our group.
