BECOME A FOSTER HOME

unnamed.jpg

Do you want to become a foster carer and prepare yourself well in advance?
Or are you already a foster carer and facing new challenges or difficult situations?

Working as a foster home for dogs is a central component of animal welfare.

Foster homes offer dogs from animal shelters or international animal rescue organizations a loving temporary home. During this transition period, the dogs can recover, settle in, and gain new experiences before being placed in their forever homes.

Requirements:

  • Experience in handling dogs

  • Enough time to take intensive care of the foster dog.

  • Written permission from the employer is required if the dog is taken to work.

  • Sufficient financial resources to cover feed costs
(Veterinary costs are covered by Dog Rescue)

  • Keeping a maximum of four of your own dogs

    • For more than five dogs, training as an animal caretaker or the FBA is required.

  • Valid personal liability insurance

  • Written permission from the landlord that keeping a dog is allowed

  • Willingness to receive interested adopters, introduce the foster dog and provide information about its nature

Your role as a foster parent:

Foster homes do indispensable preliminary work for dogs who have had little opportunity to experience life or who bring in insecurities.

You help the dog with this:

  • to settle into a home environment

  • Building trust and gaining security

  • to learn about and process new situations

Experienced foster homes can:

  • Observe the dog's needs, behaviors, and health status closely.

  • Gather valuable information for later placement

  • to train the dog in a targeted way and at its own pace

In addition, you will teach your foster dog basic rules of living together and begin training – adapted to the dog.
